Operation Siren Launched in UK to Tackle Growing Drug Problem

Officers in Dundee’s Hilltown in the UK are launching Operation Siren. According to a report in the Evening Telegraph Post, Operation Siren was started with the police seizure of Class A drugs during raids on properties in Hilltown Court, Tulloch Court, Dallfield Court and Bonnethill Court.

Operation Siren is designed to focus on Class A drug-dealing and acquisitive crime, serious and violent crime and other types of anti-social behavior that is associated with drug dealing the drug abuse.

The operation is off to a great start as three people were detained and are assisting with inquiries after heroin, cocaine and a three-figure sum of cash were found among their belongings. Another man was arrested in relation to outstanding warrants and is set to appear in court tomorrow.

According to the police force, this high profile approach is meant to send a clear message to drug-dealers and other criminals that their behavior will not be tolerated. They also hope this approach will provide reassurance to the community.

Over the next few days, community police officers, the council’s anti-social behavior team, community wardens and the police community taskforce will be visiting residents within the crime blighted high-rise buildings over the next few days to gather their views on the issues that directly affect them.

Inspector Alan Szwec said, “While it is important that enforcement action is taken, we want people to recognize police and our partners are working to meet the needs of the community over the longer term too.

“We will continue to gather and use intelligence to target all criminal activity in the area. Our uniformed officers will provide a highly visible presence alongside our partners in the days ahead.”

Gathering information in relation to anti-social neighbors and their behavior is considered by law enforcement to be vitally important toward building a case against anyone who is causing misery where they live.
